This is the 3rd year running for this mountain biking and now running extravaganza. The stunning 40km course is unchanged and will test the hardened weekend warrior. Some would say the course has been well and truly tamed with yet again a lowering of the fastest time in 2008 by Olympian rider Robin Reid with a time of 1hr 48 seconds. If you didn't hear what Robin said to the "Moa Man" as he crossed the line we will tell you, "man that was a wicked course". Also back by popular demand is the shorter and not so tough 21km MTB course which doubles yet again as a half marathon mountain run. This is all set in the picturesque Kekerengu region of the Kaikoura Coast between Kaikoura and Blenheim right next to the Pacific Ocean. This is your invitation to join the mountain biking and running forces of the 2009 'Moa Beer Moa Hunt’. Setting forth from the hospitable confines of the award winning Kekerengu Store, you and your intrepid companions will venture into the seaward Kaikoura’s, climbing to over 600m (long course) above sea level to enjoy magnificent vistas of the coastline stretched below. A quick recharge of the lungs with clear mountain air then seawards you ride with the law of gravity on your side for a classic downhill run. Between 2 and4 hours later the hospitality team will bid you welcome back at the Kekerengu Store after having completed just over 40 kilometres of some of the most exhilarating riding you will ever experience and invite you to enjoy a hearty Moa-hunter's repast. For those of you that don't want to do the long course or climb as high there is the Mini Moa that still takes in some of the breath taking views but is only half the distance at 21km. This same course will be used for those who run the "Moa Mountain Run" which just happens to be half marathon distance. Finally, celebrate the day with a yummy meal from the Store’s kitchen and then listen for your number to be called for one of the many spot prizes.. As the sun goes down we will toast the elusive Moa and those who have fallen in its pursuit.
